Silent Night…Deadly Night

A few weeks ago, we wondered what Interim Chief Michael Sullivan was doing and questioned why he was not making decisions to improve the Phoenix Police Department in various areas.

His comment that he was “waiting” for the DOJ concerned us and we gave several areas that he could be working on that wold not only make Phoenix PD much better but provide even more reason that the department does not need a failed consent decree process to “reform” the department. You can read that article here and we encourage you to do so.

Frankly, it’s perplexing and it makes us wonder why Sullivan is in Phoenix?

Is he here to be a police chief and make the agency better or is he here to provide a landing strip for the DOJ?

Our wonder is now turning to a distinct possibility.

Sullivan is the CEO of an organization tasked with ensuring Phoenix residents are safe and one of the most dangerous elements known to law enforcement is knocking on their door, a police consent decree.

That is not a scare tactic.

We have published several articles that looked at the crime rates before and after a consent decree and it is scary to think that Phoenix could go this route.

12 of the top 20 cities in murder are consent decree cities. Every city that entered into a consent decree saw dramatic rises in violent crime and reductions in their police force.

Sullivan knows this first hand. He came from Baltimore that is the 4th most dangerous city in America. Baltimore Police have a major crisis in police shortages and their consent decree requires every officer to spend 20 minutes an hour in community engagement, which they are unable to comply with because of the shortages and the bodies dropping around the city.

Oddly enough, U.S. Chief District Judge James Bredar, who is overseeing the consent decree said that “Baltimore is in serious danger at this moment when there is a serious increase in violent crime.”

We wonder why that is?

Baltimore is a disaster and it will only get worse. This is what consent decrees do and Sullivan KNOWS THIS.

Which brings us to our point.

Where is Sullivan right now? Why is he not warning the very community he is sworn to protect at the wolf at the door? As daily news comes out about the DOJ Investigation and the debates for an against within the city, where is the CEO?

Where are his comments?

How can Sullivan set back and permit a potential consent decree to ravage our beautiful city?

It’s rather confusing and it appears that he is doing very little for the department while waiting for the DOJ to make a move.

The DOJ made their move and they are coming and they will destroy Phoenix not because we think so, we know so.

The future is predicted by the past and there has not been one success story with a DOJ Consent Decree. We would publish it but no one has argued with us.

They can’t.
